Health, Fitness and Well-Being

I don’t need to tell anybody exactly how important it is to us, as living beings, to be healthy. Still, I insist on pointing out to the mountains of research showing that health is the single most important determinant of our well-being. Worth noting is also the fact that mental and physical well-being are inseparable: the intricate relationship between the balancing acts of the body and mind in sustaining our lives is very strong, albeit often extremely complex. Enough on the obvious.

When it comes to health, there is always a problem of some kind, with everyone I believe. Due to my inherent curiosity and firm belief that there is a solution to most problems, I have read widely on the topic of well-being. I have tried all kinds of diets, exercises, classes, habits etc. and I am too sorry that I have not kept a blog/journal of my experiences with them. Better late than never, though, right?

I think most people (myself included) can benefit from developing themselves both physically and mentally. My belief is that the many different methods of developing desirable qualities are all necessary; I do not think a single ‘perfect’ method exists that would suit everybody. We are all very different in certain aspects; in particular, we tend to get stimulated by (and are thus naturally better-suited to) different mental and physical activities, so I see no reason why there should be one universal method.

Because this is my personal blog, I will focus on the methods that I am interested in and work for me.

In terms of fitness, my focus is on developing flexibility, balance, movement and coordination (as opposed to building muscle mass, weight loss, etc.). Accordingly, the blog has topics on dance, gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics in particular, yoga and stretching.

In terms of developing mental health, the blog’s focus is on yoga, meditation and Buddhist philosophy.
